King West Cafe Guide (2026)

King West has one of the most varied cafe lineups in the city. You’ve got a Japanese kissaten-style espresso bar, a world-class bakery, an Australian coffee spot, and a place that serves oysters alongside its flat whites. Seven independents, all different, all on the same stretch.

Here’s what each one is actually like.

Fungo Cafe: The Japanese-style one

Inspired by the Japanese kissaten tradition — calm, considered, and precise about its coffee. Fungo is one of the highest-rated cafes on King West with good reason. The espresso is exceptional, the room is minimal, and it closes at 5pm so the mornings are the time to go. Opens at 8am.

Best for: Espresso lovers, quiet mornings, solo visits Order: Espresso or cortado

Forno Cultura: The bakery

Forno Cultura bakery and coffee on King West, Toronto

One of the best bakeries in Toronto with a coffee program that holds its own. Forno Cultura opens at 7:30am and stays open until 7pm, giving it one of the longest windows on the strip. The bread smell alone is worth the visit. Get there early for the best pastry selection.

Best for: Coffee and something to eat, early mornings, weekends Order: Espresso and whatever pastry is still warm

Nonni Cafe & Bakery: The neighbourhood staple

Italian-leaning and reliably good. Nonni opens at 7:30am and stays open until 8pm, making it one of the few King West options that works for both morning and evening. Fast wifi, good coffee, and a room that handles both a working session and a relaxed catch-up equally well.

Best for: Working, meetups, long visits Order: Latte or Americano

Woolshed Coffee: The Australian one

Australian-inspired and built around the kind of flat white culture that takes the drink seriously. Woolshed brings a laid-back energy to one of Toronto’s busiest strips and does it without feeling out of place. Good coffee, comfortable room, loyal following.

Best for: Flat white fans, relaxed mornings, weekend visits Order: Flat white or latte

Coffee Oysters Champagne: The unexpected one

The name delivers on its promise. Coffee in the morning, oysters and champagne as the day progresses. It’s one of the more interesting setups on King West and the coffee is genuinely good on its own terms. Worth a visit even if you’re not staying for the rest of the menu.

Best for: The experience, coffee and a snack, evening visits Order: Espresso or pour-over in the morning

Wallace Espresso: The focused one

Wallace Espresso on King West, Toronto

A tight, focused espresso bar that opens at 7am and does exactly what it promises. Wallace keeps the menu short and the quality high. Closes at 2:30pm so it’s a morning-only option, but for that window it’s one of the most reliable on the strip.

Best for: Early mornings, quick espresso stop, pre-work Order: Espresso or flat white

Shy Coffee Co.: The quiet one

Shy Coffee Co. on King West, Toronto

Quiet in name, not in quality. Shy Coffee opens at 7am, stays until 5pm, and makes a strong case for itself with a focused menu and well-sourced beans. One of the more underrated options on a strip that can get noisy. Good for a calm start to the day.

Best for: Early mornings, solo visits, a calm room Order: Latte or filter coffee

How to spend a morning on King West

Start at Wallace or Shy when they open at 7am. Walk west toward Bathurst while it’s quiet. Stop into Forno Cultura when it opens at 7:30 for something to eat. If you’re staying to work, Nonni has the wifi and the hours. Come back in the afternoon for a proper espresso at Fungo before it closes at 5.
