A Chinatown gem at the corner of Dean and Waverley. Small, focused, and one of those spots that feels like a genuine neighbourhood discovery.

We tried the Whisk It Up matcha making class. It was super interesting and informative! We sampled culinary, latte, and ceremonial grade matcha! At the end of the class, we made our own strawberry and ube matcha lattes! Chelsea was very knowledgable and passionate about matcha and the process! We booked a couple of weeks in advanced through their website. Highly recommend if you enjoy matcha. The cafe itself has a very nice atmosphere with lots of variety in their menu!
We visited this café this morning looking for a quiet place to study. We ordered two drinks, including the iced latte shown in the picture. Unfortunately, the latte was very disappointing. The color was unusual for a latte, and it tasted extremely watered down with very little coffee flavor. It also did not include any sweetener, which we were not aware of, and the cashier did not inform us at the time of ordering. We would have happily paid for it if we had known. Each drink cost $7.35, which made the experience even more disappointing given the quality. We did ask if more espresso could be added, and a very kind staff member did try to fix it, which we appreciated. However, the drink still did not improve much and we ended up leaving half of it. Unfortunately, this was our first visit and it will likely be our last. We were very disappointed with the experience.
The cafe had a cozy atmosphere. I ordered the ube matcha latte, and it tasted delightful, very matcha-y and had wonderful latte art. One issue I had was the lack of seating. I would recommend either going earlier to secure spots or getting food/drinks to go. They also a rather small selection of drinks and food. I would have appreciated more variety. But overall, nice and cozy, tasty, and it felt like I was romantisizing my academic life. The music wasn't overbearing so great study space!
Did the Art of Matcha making workshop with Chelsea and she was phenomenal. She was so knowledgable and provided helpful info on the different grades of matcha, the regions, how matcha is made etc. We got to try different types of matcha at the different grades, and then make our own strawberry or ube matcha latte. It was such a fun class and I learned a lot!
Very nice cafe, however, it is located on uoft campus which makes it a busy study spot for students(bring headphones). I liked it here, the matcha wasnt as sweet as I liked, but that's a personal opinion. The staff that served me was very helpful and accommodating. I came here on a Wednesday around 1pm and it was busy. Didn't try the food, would come again 👍🏼
