Cafe La_On

Went here last week with a friend, she recommended this cafe after having brunch around the area. The space is pretty roomy, with a few seats near the entrance and several tables in the back, so it didn’t feel cramped at all. The drinks were really good, and the desserts were too! The dessert I got was very sweet but goes well with the bitter drinks! My friend ordered a matcha, and I got a coffee drink (lol I forgot the name), but I loved it. I’m usually not a big foam person, but this one was perfect. I was worried it might be too sweet or too bitter, but the bottom was slightly bitter while the foam was sweet, and they balanced each other so well without mixing it! I’d definitely come back and order the same drink again.

Matcha drink was lighter than expected, but nicely balanced. Cream foam on top was smooth and creamy, with hot matcha underneath that stayed well rounded and comforting. The real star, though, was the cake(Matcha terrine). Dense, rich, and deeply matcha-forward bold, intense, and incredibly satisfying. 10/10. Finished every bite. Highly recommended, especially for the matcha cake. The café itself is quiet and calm, though a bit too dim for me. Cozy, but slightly sleep-inducing perfect for those who enjoy a peaceful, low-key atmosphere.

The menu at La_On is fantastic, but the service experience was a bit stressful. I ordered a matcha latte with oat milk, a Nutty Coffee (which had a really nice foam and was very easy to drink), and the Grey It Matcha. I absolutely loved the Earl Grey foam on the Grey It Matcha—it’s a standout! For dessert, the tiramisu is highly recommended; it’s light and not too sweet. Unfortunately, the barista/cashier was very impatient. Despite there being no long line, he kept rushing me and asking “That’s it?” every time I tried to add another item to my order. It’s a shame because the quality of the drinks is 5-star, but the hospitality made me feel like an inconvenience.

My friend and I both really enjoyed this café! We shared three desserts (earl grey terrine, sesame Basque cheesecake, and original tiramisu ball) and each got a matcha cream latte. We loved everything. The terrine was a bit sweet for my taste but I loved the strong earl grey flavor. My friend had previously said she didn't think she liked matcha, but has a completely different view on it after trying the latte here! Also feel like the prices are very reasonable for the level of quality. Definitely recommend.

Cafe La_On is one of my favourite cafes in Toronto! It's cozy, welcoming, & perfect for relaxing or catching up with friends. The drinks were delicious & well made, and the desserts were just as good. The staff were friendly & attentive, too, which made the experience even better. My friends & I will definitely be back! (:
